The Planet

Music from the
Films of David Lickley

The music of The Planet, a symphonic soundtrack of suites from three Canadian films about the environment and eco-system of our planet, was composed by Amin Bhatia and features a full size orchestra comprised of Canada’s finest session and orchestral musicians.

“Every few years David Lickley emerges with a new large format film and I get to write the music for it.  David and I both love melody, and that makes our collaborations energetic, challenging and inspiring. All my life I’ve made music with machines, but David’s films remind us that the ecosystem of The Planet is the most sophisticated machine of all. To operate smoothly humanity needs to work alongside nature.  And isn’t that the ultimate collaboration?”
Amin Bhatia

David Lickley, an award winning biologist and IMAX filmmaker who has traveled the globe to tell the Earth’s stories says: “Over 16 years and five Large Format Films, we have traveled from the forests of Tanzania to the icy realms of the High Arctic, with stops in the Yukon, Ghana, Thailand, India, Lake Superior, and over a massive  wildfire in Northwestern Ontario – to name just a few.  Each film has its own unique musical approach inspired by the stories and music of that region. What they all have in common is Amin’s passion and extraordinary talent.  I hope you enjoy listening to these selections as much as I’ve enjoyed being a part of the musical journey.”  David Lickley
